HC Deb 09 May 1972 vol 836 c303W
40. Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will arrange for a large-scale survey to be undertaken to identify families eligible for family income supplement but who have not claimed it.

Sir K. Joseph

No. Families eligible for family income supplement who have not claimed represent approximately one out of 200 households throughout the country. Arrangements are being introduced for information about family income supplement to go automatically to parents who apply for free school meals. In Scotland, Wales and each of the 10 English regions an officer has been appointed to ensure that everything posible is done to see that people know about their entitlement. There has been an extensive Press and television campaign to publicise the recently increased rates of benefit.
