HC Deb 09 May 1972 vol 836 cc317-8W
Mrs. Castle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what machinery is available for monitoring the side-effects of the contraceptive pill on women and its effects on any child born following the use of the pill.

Sir K. Joseph

A well-established system exists for the reporting of side-effects to all medicines, including oral contraceptives. Special cards for this purpose are supplied to doctors and dentists for despatch to the Committee on Safety of Medicines. These reports are monitored and followed up where necessary and are considered by the committee at its regular meetings.
