HC Deb 09 May 1972 vol 836 c353W
Mr. Edward Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proposals he has for further assistance to works of conservation in Scotland.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

We propose in the Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Bill, now before the House, to make flexible provision for grants for the preservation or improvement of the character or appearance of any designated conservation area of outstanding architectural or historic interest. Subject to the necessary legislative authority, I propose for this purpose further to increase the funds available, on the recommendation of the Historic Buildings Council for Scotland, in the first instance by £50,000 in the remainder of the current financial year.
