HC Deb 03 May 1972 vol 836 cc140-1W
Mr. Adam Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total cost incurred in providing the rent officer service in Scotland to the end of the financial year 1970–71; and in respect of how many dwellings were fair rents determined for the same period.

Mr. Gordon Campbell:

Total expenditure on the rent registration service, from its inception on 1st March, 1966, to 31st March, 1971, was just under £370,000. A separate figure for the rent officer service is not available.

The number of fair rents determined in that period was 24,383.

Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the average percentage of net income spent in Scotland on house rent in the public sector; and to what extent this has increased in the last 10 years.

Mr. Gordon Campbell:

About 4 per cent. of gross household income in 1971, as against 2.8 per cent. in 1961. Figures based on net income are not available.
