HC Deb 03 May 1972 vol 836 c161W
Mr. Harold Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) if he will ask the Robens Committee to give consideration to the need to establish legally enforceable minimum standards of quality covering the import and sale of industrial safety clothing and equipment;

(2) if he will seek powers to prohibit the sale of industrial safety clothing or equipment that does not conform to British standards.

Mr. Chichester-Clark:

The Robens Committee have given full consideration to the issues involved in safety and health at work and are now finalising their report. It would not be appropriate at this stage to refer particular questions to them for consideration; but my right hon. Friend will be considering in the light of their report the full range of the powers available to him in this field.
