HC Deb 02 May 1972 vol 836 c77W
55. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he proposes to take to find means of comparable employment for the 6,300 employees who have become redundant in the past three years as a result of the closure of 39 factories in the area of the Willesden Employment Exchange, a list of which has been sent to him by the hon. Member for Willesden. West.

Mr. Chichester-Clark:

The figure quoted by the hon. Member includes workpeople transferred within the organisations in which they were employed, and the actual number of redundancies notified was 4,898. All the resources of my Department have been made available over this period to help the workpeople concerned, including interviewing in advance of discharge, canvassing for vacancies and the offer of training opportunities, as appropriate.
