§ Mr. Joel Barnettasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what assistance is given to a husband who temporarily gives up work to care for a wife who has a few weeks to live; on what basis, in the case brought to his attention by the hon. Member for Heywood and Royton, the assistance offered was 60 pence a week, in view of the fact that the cost to the National Health Service of maintaining the woman in hospital is about £8 a day; and if he will make a statement.
