§ Mr. Peter Thomas:The Welsh Hospital Board has currently under review the hospital services in Wales for the elderly including the provision for psycho-geriatric cases. Preliminary results indicate that improvements will be needed and I understand that the board will shortly be considering what action is required. In conjunction with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services, I expect to issue later this year new guidance to hospital and 10W local authorities about services for persons suffering from mental illness related to old age.
§ Mr. Alec Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Wales how much money has been spent on the provision of geriatric beds in each hospital management committee area in Wales in each of the last 10 years.
§ Mr. Peter Thomas:This information is not available as the expenditure on the provision of geriatric beds is not separately identifiable.
