§ BARONESS TWEEDSMUIR OF BELHELVIEThe Committee's Report,Local Government Reform: the Water Service in Scotland, is being published to-day, and copies are now available in the Printed Paper Office. Copies are being sent to all Scottish water boards. As was announced in another place on December 22, 1971, by my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Scotland, it is intended that the Bill on local government reform in Scotland should provide that all regional authorities will have responsibility for water supply, as will the new authorities for Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles. Where regional boundaries do not fit existing water distribution systems, provision will be made, as follows, for regional authorities to supply parts of adjoining regions as added areas to their own regions.

The Central Scotland Water Development Board, differently constituted, will be retained to carry out its co-ordinating 1197WA functions and to administer water schemes supplying more than one regional authority.
