1967–68 205,195 1968–69 217,363 1969–70 226,069 1970–71 235,256 1971–72 241,373 (Provisional) Students entering university directly from school in any year will normally be drawn from the school population of the previous year aged 17 and over. The figures for the school population of the United Kingdom aged 17 and over as at January from 1967 to 1971 are:—
1967 180,260 1968 187,440 1969 194,225 1970 202,293 1971 210,200 (Provisional) But a considerable number of students entering university do not go there directly from school and it is not possible to define an exact relationship between a segment of the school population and the numbers entering or attending university.
