§ Mr. Juddasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) whether he will make a statement on the studies undertaken by his Department into the impact on British workers of British know-how being applied to the production of electronic components which are produced in low-cost-labour countries and which are subsequently imported to the United Kingdom; and whether he will make a statement on Government policy towards such workers;
(2) whether he will make a statement on the studies undertaken by his Department into therôle played by Great Britain in the electronics industry, with particular reference to the development of component production techniques, and to the significance of this rôle for British workers in terms of their employment prospects.
§ Mr. David PriceWe have made a study of the important sector of the electronics industry concerned with integrated circuits, and we are taking account of the results of the study in our actions. If the hon. Member has any further points in mind, perhaps he will write to me12W about them. However, it has been the consistent policy of successive British Governments to encourage the export of British capital and British know-how to developing countries.
