§ 46. Mr. Michael McNair-Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has for releasing derelict land in the Green Belt for house building.
§ Mr. Michael HeseltineNone. Green Belts are designed, amongst other things, to prevent the outward growth of large built-up areas or the coalescence of neighbouring towns. Although some land in a Green Belt may be derelict or unsightly it does not necessarily follow that it should be released for house building.
