§ Mr. MaudlingThe report was laid before the House and published this afternoon. I am glad to have this opportunity of expressing the Government's gratitude to the committee for the thorough and painstaking work which has 309W gone into it. The report is a complex document which deals with a number of fundamental aspects of the criminal law and provides a framework for early and necessary reform. But I shall wish to study it further before coming to conclusions on its detailed recommendations, and in doing so I shall wish to take into account any views that may be conveyed to me by interested bodies and persons.
