§ 46. Mr. Edward Lyonsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will amend the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme to conform with common law practice by providing for the payment of compensation for loss of expectation of life.
§ Mr. CarlisleIn cases where an injury does not result in the victim's death, the Board follows the practice of the civil courts in this respect. In fatal cases, the Board may entertain applications for compensation from a victim's spouse or dependant. My right hon. Friend does not consider that, in anex gratia scheme of this kind, payment should be made from public funds for the benefit of the victim's estate.
