§ Mr. Arthur Lewis
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he is aware that Libya 17W has admitted supplying arms to the Irish Republican Army; what action he has taken, either by protest or otherwise, to the Government of Libya; and whether he will cause an investigation to ascertain to what extent other Arabian States have supplied, or are supplying arms to the Irish Republican Army.
§ Mr. Godber
As I told the right hon. Member for Kettering (Sir G. de Freitas) on 14th June, strong protests about Colonel Qadhafi's claims to be supplying arms to Irish revolutionaries were made to the Libyan authorities on 12th June. The close and constant watch maintained on arms supplies to the Irish Republican Army has not disclosed any evidence implicating other Arab States.—[Vol. 838, c. 343–4.]
