(2) what were the reasons in each case why he did not confirm deportation orders made by magistrates in the latest year for which statistics are available: and the number of cases involved.
§ Mr. LaneIn 1971, 793 recommendations for deportation were made by courts. Five hundred deportation orders were368W made. In 99 other cases the person concerned left the country without an order being made. The grounds for not giving effect to a recommendation range from technical invalidity to exceptional compassionate circumstances which were not known to the court.
