Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the total amount of money to be allocated to improve existing housing conditions of prison officers and their families at prisons in the London area during the next 12 months.

About £175,000 is expected to be spent in the current financial year on the maintenance and renovation of existing staff quarters at Brixton, Pentonville, Wands worth and Wormwood Scrubs prisons. These four establishments are among those recognised as having priority for the purchase of new quarters, but the expenditure will depend on the number of suitable houses which become available.
