§ Mr. Biffenasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what representations concerning the bacon trade were received from the Polish Government by the delegation, led by Mr. Peter Preston, an official of his Department, which visited Warsaw in early May; what representations are now planned with the European Economic Community on the question of United Kingdom imports of Polish pigmeat products; what is the expected level of such imports over the next three years; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. NobleThe Polish delegation expresed its anxieties about the possible adverse effects of our accession to the European Economic Community on their exports to us of agricultural commodities, especially bacon. The application of the regulations governing imports of bacon into the enlarged Community from all sources including Poland is a matter we shall shortly be discussing with our Community partners. In the meantime it is not possible to forecast the future level of such imports.
