§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry why, in his measures to ban the import of skins into 13W Great Britain of animals such as tigers and leopards, he has excluded coats and plates of sewn skins.
§ Mr. EmeryThe import control was not extended to coats and plates of sewn skins, because the British Fur Trade Association, which proposed its introduction, did not consider that evasion by means of imports of these products was likely, and their inclusion would have considerably enhanced Customs difficulties in enforcement of the control. Inquiries are being made and, if there is evidence of evasion on a significant scale by the import of these products, we will consider extending the control of them.
