§ Mr. Kenneth BakerThe number of non-industrial civil servants employed in the Civil Service Department on 1st July, 1970, was 2,143. The number employed on 1st April, 1972, was 3,037. This increase is mainly due to the transfer from Ministry of Defence (Procurement Executive) on 1st April, 1972, of the Chessington Computer Centre and the setting up on the same date of the Central Computer Agency incorporating the Technical Support Unit from the Department of Trade and Industry and the Computer Bureau and Procurement170W Division from Her Majesty's Stationery Office, and to increased activity by the Civil Service College. I am told that the number of non-industrial staff in the Cabinet Office at the same dates was 554 and 586, respectively.
