HL Deb 14 July 1972 vol 333 cc507-8WA
LORD BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government :

When, under the recommended price procedure under the Trade Descriptions Act, they propose to make a recommended price marking obligatory, where the item shows a stated reduction below (for example 2p off) the recommended price.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY (THE EARL OF LIMERICK)

The Government have no plans at present to make the marking of recommended prices obligatory. Any person who gives false indication that the price at which he offers goods is less than the recommended price is guilty of an offence under Section 11 of the Trade Descriptions Act 1968, whether or not he states the amount of the reduction.

House adjourned at five minutes before one o'clock.
