§ Mr. Donald Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what discussions he has had with representatives of the National and Local Government Officers Association about the employment of their members following the reorganisation of local government.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellThe National and Local Government Officers Association has been brought into the Government's preliminary talks on the reorganisation legislation where staffing is concerned. Further discussions with the association on general matters will be held as necessary, but details of the future employment of staff are mainly for local consideration.
§ Mr. Ewingasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many Scottish local 340W authorities have requested to meet him regarding the reorganisation of local government; how many he has agreed to meet; and how many he has refused to meet.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellI have had a number of such requests, but I have explained that it is impracticable to have meetings with individual authorities. Ten Ministerial meetings have, however, been held with the local authority associations; and I am arranging two further meetings with authorities on specific points which have arisen since the discussions with the associations.
