§ Mr. Ralph Howell
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his latest estimate of the extra local government staff and civil servants necessary to operate the rebate system proposed in the Housing Finance Bill.
§ Mr. Channon
Some increase in the staff of local authorities, development corporations and the Commission for the New Towns is expected to be needed for the administration of the proposed rent rebate and allowance schemes, particularly in areas where there have been only limited schemes or none at all. Any increase is expected to be offset to some extent by reductions of staff employed 179W in connection with the present subsidy system. About 100 additional staff may be required for the Supplementary Benefits Commission.
