§ Mr. David HowellThe table below lists Departments which have increased their staff by 100 or more in the period 1st July, 1970, to 1st January, 1972. Some of these increases reflected changes in Departments' functions and are counterbalanced by decreases elsewhere. It is not possible from the information available centrally to assess the additional salary cost of these net increases. It remains the Government's policy to look for economies in all areas of the Civil Service.
