Mr. Edward Taylorasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied with the present arrangements for licensing taxis, betting shops and public houses; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellI know of the recent controversy regarding the licensing of taxis in Glasgow, but I see no urgent need for a review of the system. The arrangements for licensing public houses are at present being examined by the Clayson Committee. When the committee reports, I will consider any implications that its proposals may hold for the 119W licensing of betting shops; but I have no plans at present for legislation on that subject.
