HC Deb 18 December 1972 vol 848 c302W
Mr. Rowlands

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in the proposals now being discussed for the reconstitution of the membership of research councils, on which councils the Scottish Office, the Welsh Office and other Government Departments will have members and/or assessors; and if she will make a statement.

Mrs. Thatcher

It is intended that Government Departments with a substantial interest in the work of a research council will in future provide full members of that council. Other Departments may be represented by assessors.

Research councils have yet to pass the resolutions necessary before their charters can be amended, and it is too early to make a statement.
