§ 42. Sir Gilbert Longdenasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will recommend the appointment of a Royal Commission to investigate the question of safety in aircraft.
§ Mr. OnslowI share my hon. Friend's concern that the high standards of air safety in this country should be maintained. It was for this reason amongst others that the Civil Aviation Authority was set up to draw together the various aspects of safety regulation. The authority is fully alive to the importance of this aspect of its work. I do not, therefore, consider that there is a need for a Royal Commission on this matter.
