Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many civil servants are employed by the Department of Health and Social Security and the Supplementary Benefits Commission in each of the local authority areas of Scotland.

The services are now integrated and it is no longer possible to give a reliable apportionment of staff numbers.

On 1st October, 1972, the staff of my Department based in Scottish local authority areas was as follows:
