HC Deb 04 December 1972 vol 847 c312W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many thalidomide children have been assessed by a team of assessors including medical, para-medical, technological and social service experts; how many have been provided with environmental controllers; how how successful this equipment has been.

Sir K. Joseph

We do not know how many thalidomide children, if any, have been so assessed because the Department is informed only if, as a result of such an assessment, apparatus is recommended. No recommendation to supply it has been received.

Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many effective artificial limbs have been fitted to thalidomide children; and to what extent they make up the shortcomings of their limbs.

Sir K. Joseph

The information is being assembled and I will write to the hon. Member when it is available.
