HL Deb 11 August 1972 vol 334 cc1580-1WA
LORD BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

On what grounds Herr Uli Roehm, a West German pacifist, was detained for four hours at Heathrow Airport on July 21 when the object of his visit was to attend a conference of the War Resisters' International, an organisation dedicated to non-violence.

VISCOUNT COLVILLE OF CULROSS

Herr Roehm arrived at London Airport on July 21 and sought admission for what he described as a course of study. His subsequent examination was prolonged by difficulty in establishing the real purpose of his visit. There was also some delay in finding his luggage. He was altogether delayed for a little more than two hours before being admitted for seven days to attend the conference.
