§ Mr. Tinnasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations including requests for grant to the local authority, he has received during the past two years regarding the problems of the owners of small businesses in clearance areas in South Ban, Grangetown and other parts of the Teesside County Borough whose properties have not been purchased by the local authority; and what steps he proposes to take in the matter to ease the position of people who have lost their livelihood through no fault of their own.
§ Mr. Graham PageRepresentations have been received from the South Bank and District Chamber of Trade and the National Chamber of Trade. Most of the clearance was carried out under Part III of the Housing Act, 1957. Section 63(2) of that Act gives local authorities power to make discretionary payments towards losses suffered by retail shopkeepers after slum clearance in the area. Teesside CBC will no doubt have observed the hon. Member's concern.
