HC Deb 09 August 1972 vol 842 c485W
Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he proposes to take to limit the lead content of the glaze on ceramic ware used for food.

Mr. R. Carr

I intend to make regulations under the Consumer Protection Act, 1961, prescribing limits for the amount of extractable lead and cadmium in the glaze on tableware and ovenware. Proposals for these regulations, which will be based on the relevant British Standards, will be circulated to interested bodies for comment as soon as possible.
