HC Deb 01 August 1972 vol 842 c88W
82. Sir Clive Bossom

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied with the position of poultry keepers in that flock sizes of 30,000 to 45,000 birds are now going out of production; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Prior

Heavy production of eggs in recent months has resulted in very low prices. There is evidence that producers are now taking steps to reduce or suspend production and this should bring the market into better balance.

I am very conscious of the difficulties which many producers face in the present situation but I am confident that the industry is fully capable of solving the problems inevitably posed by a free market.
