HC Deb 12 April 1972 vol 834 c183W
Sir Bernard Braine

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when the Government hopes to take a decision on the siting of the runways at Maplin.

Mr. Peter Walker

I am today publishing a consultation document, which examines the implications of a range of possible sites for the runways. This document takes full account of the latest available information and forecasts. No decision will be taken until there has been opportunity for the local authorities and other bodies concerned, and for the public at large, to study this document. I am asking for any comments to be sent to me quickly, with a view to a final decision in June.

The document will have a wide circulation. I have sent copies individually to my hon. Friend and to other Members with constituencies in the area, and copies are available in the Vote Office.
