HC Deb 11 April 1972 vol 834 c141W
42. Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the final cost to the Supplementary Benefits Commission of payments to those involved in the British Leyland strike and their dependants, and of payments made after the resumption of work.

Sir K. Joseph

The amounts paid during the dispute at British Leyland, Bathgate, were £11 to strikers themselves and £33,219 for their dependants. A further £11,650 was paid to strikers and their dependants following the resumption of work. The administrative cost of paying supplementary benefit in this dispute cannot be calculated because the strike centre concerned dealt with more than one dispute.
