§ 59. Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, whether she will institute a national survey of children's ability to read at age seven and 11 years, respectively; and whether she will then devote additional resources to those areas considerably below the national average.
§ Mrs. ThatcherA national survey of a sample of 11 and 15 year olds is being carried out but will not provide an analysis by areas. It is thought that seven years would be too early to give reliable results. Additional resources are already made available for areas of social or educational need.
