HC Deb 19 November 1971 vol 826 c241W
Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the per capita expenditure of each regional hospital board for 1970 and 1971.

Mr. Alison

The information for 1970–71 is as follows:

Regional Hospital Board Capital Expenditure 1970–71 (per capita) Revenue Expenditure 1970–71 (per capita)
£ £
Newcastle 1.8 16.7
Leeds 1.7 18.1
Sheffield 1.9 14.2
East Anglia 2.6 14.4
North West Metropolitan 1.7 16.8
North East Metropolitan 1.5 18.6
South East Metropolitan 1.7 17.6
South West Metropolitan 1.7 20.8

South Western 2.2 18.1
Birmingham 1.8 15.5
Manchester 2.0 16.9
Liverpool 2.6 18.6
Wessex 2.5 17.9

These figures have been calculated by dividing the total expenditure of each regional hospital board by the estimated population of its area. They make no allowance for the fact that one regional hospital board may provide services for patients who reside in the area of another, nor do they include expenditure by boards of governors of teaching hospitals.
