§ Mrs. Lena Jegerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations and suggestions of alternative sites for the National Library he has received from Camden Council; and what reply he has sent.
§ Mr. ChannonThe Council suggested an alternative site north of King's Cross station and at their request received a deputation from the council on 1st October. My right hon. Friend reminded the deputation that the Government had announced their intention in a White Paper published last January that the Library should be built on the Bloomsbury site; and that when the proposals in the White Paper were subsequently debated in Parliament, they received widespread approval. My right hon. Friend told the deputation that, in these circumstances, the question of the site for the Library could not be reopened.
