HC Deb 16 November 1971 vol 826 cc96-7W
51. Mr. Buchan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the number of applicants for teacher training in Scotland with entrance qualifications who were refused admission for the current session.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

Three hundred and fifty such applicants for the primary diploma course, and 186 applicants for the physical education courses did not secure places for the current session. This year the highest number ever of students have entered to primary diploma courses.

Mr. Buchan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many graduates are at present in teacher training at each of the colleges of education; and what were the comparable numbers in 1970 and 1969.
