§ Mr. Freesonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the amount of land surplus to operational needs held by British Rail, regional hospital boards, the Metropolitan Water Board, electricity boards, gas boards, the Post Office and Government Departments in Greater London; and if he will list the acreages according to ownership in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
§ Mr. Peter Walker:I am unable to give figures but the Under-Secretary of State's Action Group on London Housing are taking urgent action with other departments, local authorities and the nationalised industries with a view to the release for other purposes, particularly housing, of land in Greater London which is surplus to their requirements. We are also directly in touch with British Rail, who are reviewing their land holdings.
