HC Deb 25 May 1971 vol 818 cc82-3W
Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, following his announcement on 17th May that there would be further food price increases over the coming: months, he will state which commodities will be affected; and what will be the extent of the increase in each case.

Mr. Prior

As the right hon. Member will know it is not the practice to publish detailed forecasts of changes in food prices. In giving a general warning about the likelihood of further price increases, I had in mind that, while certain seasonal price reductions may be expected in the coming months, other foods are bound to increase in price because of the effect of world market forces and of wage inflation in this country.
