§ Sir K. JosephAutumn, 1967. In 1965, the last full year before the review began, there were 5,616 pay beds, and the percentage occupancy by private patients was 52 per cent. In 1969, the latest year for which occupancy figures are available, it was 60 per cent. The total number of pay beds authorised in England is now 4,429.
