Mr. Raphael Tuck

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he now has for the erection of crash barriers on the stretch of the MI motorway between Watford and Hemel Hempstead.

Work is expected to start next month on the erection of central reserve safety barriers on the Watford-Hemel Hempstead section of the M1.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the Government's policy as to the construction of a six- lane carriageway on the Ml between Watford and Hemel Hempstead to replace the existing four-lane carriageway.

My Department is still investigating the best means of providing additional capacity, or otherwise improving conditions for traffic, on this section of the M1.
