§ 20 and 52. Mr. J. H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) whether she is now in a position to estimate the number of students not accepted or applying for entry to universities, who will be eligible for entry to polytechnics on full-time or sandwich courses next year, in 1975 and 1980;
(2) whether she is now able to make a statement about the financing of poly- 404W technics, bearing in mind the projected increase in the number of students.
§ Mrs. ThatcherIt is clear that the polytechnics will need to expand conisderably during the next decade, but I am not yet in a position to make a realistic estimate of student admissions, or levels of expenditure over the period 1975–80.
§ Mr. J. H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what programme she has for increasing the number of places in halls of residence, special flats or housing, or authorised lodgings, in polytechnics, and how many such places will be available next year, in 1975 and in 1980.
§ Mrs. ThatcherI would refer my hon. Friend to the Answer given to his earlier Questions today. I am not yet in a position to make a realistic estimate about residential provision over the period 1975–80.
