§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why the Royal Mint has promoted three persons to the designation of directors and in two cases has given salary increases of up to and over £1,000 per annum; whether he is aware that these rises, including the Deputy Master's salary and three directors, amount to £24,300 per annum; and if he will make a statement on the relationship between these increases and the Government's policy of de-escalating the rate of wage increases.
§ Mr. HigginsThe management of the Royal Mint has, after due enquiry by the Civil Service Department, recently been reorganised in the interests of greater efficiency. Two new senior posts with new and wider duties were approved into which existing officials of the Royal Mint were promoted. The additional cost of these changes was £855 per annum; but two full-time and one part-time senior posts have been surrendered, at an annual saving of £11,455 per annum.
