§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services by what authority the Registrar General made radio and television broadcasts and press announcements concerning the work of his Department, officers and enumerators; whether he is satisfied that such statements are in accordance with his official status; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Sir K. JosephThe Registrar General needs no special authority to accept invitations to broadcast or to make statements to the press on the work of his Department. He is subject to the usual conditions regarding such statements by civil servants and in doing so recently he had my full approval. His broadcasts and press statements were in accord with his official status.
