HC Deb 04 May 1971 vol 816 cc328-9W
Mr. Adam Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what was the average total cost, including land and services, of a new three-bedroom council dwelling in Fife County, the Burgh of Dunfermline and the Burgh of Inverkeithing, respectively, in 1970, and how they compare with the average total cost for Scotland as a whole;

(2) what was the average total cost, including land and services, of a new two-bedroom dwelling in Fife County, the Burgh of Dunfermline, and the Burgh of Inverkeithing, respectively, in 1970, and how they compare with the average total cost for Scotland as a whole.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

This information is not readily available for separate sizes of house in separate local authority areas. The average approved costs—including house erection, site development and servicing, land and fees—of local authority houses, of all sizes and types, approved in 1970 were:

£
Scotland 4,300
Fife County 4,500
Dunfermline Burgh 4,100
Inverkeithing Burgh 4,000
Costs may be affected by differences in the types of house, in the proportion of houses of different sizes, in the density of development and in site conditions, and also by other factors.
