§ Mr. John Smithasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what consultations he has had with the Small Industries Council about its plans to restrict the 216W operation of its financial support to small firms, to rural areas, and withdraw the support it presently gives in industrial areas.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellThe Small Industries Council for Rural Areas of Scotland is limited by its constitution to activities "… in or for the benefit of rural areas". I understand that the Council is at present considering its definition of "rural areas" with a view to ensuring that its work is directed as effectively as possible, and that I will be consulted before any decision is taken.
