§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Lord President of the Council whether he is aware that Members of Parliament have expenses in the performance of their duties which are of a type reimbursed in the case of employees by employers; and, as these costs have risen since October, 1964, whether he will ask the review body, which he is to appoint, to consider treating Members of Parliament on the same basis as civil servants regarding these necessary expenses.

§ Mr. WhitelawA Member of Parliament when away from London, or his constituency, on the business of the House, receives the same allowance as a senior civil servant undertaking official duties away from his normal place of work. Members of the United Kingdom Parliamentary Delegations to the Consultative Assemblies of the Council of Europe, Western European Union, and also the North Atlantic Assembly, receive global per diem allowances to cover all necessary expenses.
