HL Deb 17 March 1971 vol 316 c553WA
LORD AMULREE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, now that the Government offices in Marsham Street are about to be occupied, they will reconsider their decision to replace Queen Anne's Mansions with more Government offices and will retain that site for residential purposes.

LORD SANDFORD

The decision to replace Queen Anne's Mansions with more office accommodation was made by the owners, and not by Her Majesty's Government. An office development permit was granted for the development in August 1968, and the owners obtained planning permission from the Westminster City Council in March 1969.

The Department of the Environment has already entered into an agreement with the owners to lease the new offices, which will form an important part of the programme to rationalise and improve accommodation for those Civil Servants who must remain in London.
